Alongside the usual events that are all over the city as the weather brightens up, there are plenty of fun ones for families and groups to explore, free of charge. These are some of our favourites that we managed to put together for the coming weekend. We hope you enjoy!
Saturday 6th May
IMPERIAL FESTIVAL (6-7 May)
If you’re looking for some family-friendly science fun, the Imperial Festival is an awesome festival which gives a public look into the work of Imperial’s scientists. The event takes place at Imperial College and you will be able to land virtual reality planes, battle superbugs, and learn about creamy cheese!
You can book ahead, and entry is free.
PECKHAM SALVAGE YARD (6-7 May, 11am – 6pm)
If you are looking to get some great deals or exciting unique pieces, the Peckham Salvage Yard will host a vintage market with 50 traders selling furniture, textiles, clothes, ceramics, and more. It is put together by the same team behind Hackney Flea Market, so expect some real treats!
The event takes place at the Bussey Building, and you can just turn up whenever.
MOANA (10.30am/12.15pm)
If your kids have been asking you to go see the new Disney film Moana, then the Little Rippers Film Club may be a good place to start. Wear them out with an hour-long skate session before hand, and then you can take them home and have a relaxing weekend!
It’s a free event at House of Vans, all you need to do is turn up.
CRAFTY FOX MARKET (11-5pm)
If you are looking for more crafty bits for the house or gifts for friends and family, the Craft Fox Market plays host to over 75 artists and designers selling their bits and pieces.
The market is at the Oval Space (Bethnal Green), and entry is free.
SEWING MACHINES (2-5pm)
See the sewing machine given to Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter as a wedding present, and various other objects at the monthly opening of the Sewing Machine Museum
Sewing Machine Museum (Balham High Road), and entry is free but donations are welcome.
Sunday 7th May
CROYDON AIRPORT (11-4pm)
If you are a fan of aviation history, Croydon Airport has a montly open day where you can take a free tour around the airport and see the world’s oldest air traffic control tower.
MINIONS (12.15pm)
Another part of the Little Rippers Film Club. Bring your kids for an hour-long skate session and then let them enjoy Minions the film.
Takes place at the House of Vans, all you need to do is turn up.
DESIGNERS’ MARKET (2.30-5.30pm)
Get some amazing trinkets or gifts at the E17 Designers’ Market. Clothes, Glassware, Prints and more – all available from local designers and makers.
The event takes place at the Waltham Forest Community Hub, is free to enter at any time.
